General Responsibilities

The Manager, Corporate Risk Management manages day to day operational elements of Crown’s risk management program, including workers compensation claims oversight, assisting in coverage placement, claims analysis, loss reporting & benchmark analysis, contract review, and renewal oversight & submission in support of the company’s global operations. The position also partners with the company’s plants and operational business teams to manage the company’s total cost of risk in alignment with the company’s business goals.

The position works with external partners (adjusters & brokers) to provide guidance on complex claims and assists department in consult of vendor, supplier, and customer insurance provisions within contract and indemnification agreements. The Manager oversees the Risk Management Department’s RMIS system and internal department web page content & design. This position requires a detail-oriented person with excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as a demonstrated commitment to the risk management discipline.

Working Relationships

The position sits within the Corporate Finance team, and interacts with five areas of the company’s operating divisions, including Americas, EMEA, Asia, Transit, and Corporate. The position interacts on daily basis with insurance brokers, insurers, and multiple RMIS vendor partners.

Key Responsibilities

Department Support

  • Assist VP, Risk Management in strategy and annual placement of company’s insurance programs, including assistance in marketing strategy, underwriting data collection, actuarial analysis, pricing, preparation of renewal submission
  • Oversee company’s global master insurance location schedule including maintenance to ensure continuity of coverage for all operating divisions and corporate
  • Oversee compliance of Certificates of Insurance and Letters of Indemnity documentation with Crown locations and Sourcing Department. Review and advise Crown personnel on contract insurance and indemnity terms
  • Review and analyze insurance requirements in vendor, lease, and other third-party contracts; provide guidance to internal stakeholders to ensure contract terms align with insurance capabilities and obligations
  • Conduct exposure analysis, assist in premium & rate development, manage uninsured risk, and ensure accurate limits of Liability and Property insurance statement of values
  • Evaluate and perform loss-trend analysis of loss data in order to validate claims data, loss prevention strategies, and production of quarterly loss reports for management.
  • Develop and communicate annual risk budget to all Divisions. Develop and oversee allocations to include key risk management metrics. Monitor and report Total Cost of Risk.
  • Assist in due diligence process for acquisitions, budgeting and allocation of insurance costs, monitor total cost of risk, & support legal counsel in claims and contract disputes
  • Manage preparation of monthly & quarterly claim reports, identifying loss trends to leadership and business
  • Oversee Risk Analyst’s preparation of data for annual US casualty insurance program audits. Liaise with insurer’s auditors as needed
  • Manage US surety bond program
  • Assist VP, Risk Management with facilitation of casualty loss control services with US casualty insurer and EHS department for manufacturing locations

Claims Support

  • Manage US workers’ compensation claims for all current and run-off policy years. Manage litigated and non-litigated claims. Direct carriers, claims administrators and defense attorneys on workers’ compensation matters to ensure the proper and efficient handling of claims.
  • Analyze workers’ compensation settlement recommendations from carriers and lawyers and where appropriate resolve claims within settlement authority. Provide settlement recommendations above authority to Corporate Vice President of Risk Management.
  • Communicate regularly and coordinate all claim-related activity with plant management, insurers, claims administrators, defense attorneys and Corporate Benefits Department.
  • Review opportunities to reduce claim inventory. Conduct periodic multi-carrier claim file reviews.
  • Report quarterly benchmark reports on US workers’ compensation program to senior management. Continually educate business units on ways to reduce WC financial impact.
  • Reconcile annual workers’ compensation program retro adjustments and perform year-end accrual analysis. Provide reporting to and liaise with Crown auditors.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual premium payment reports for self-insured and state fund workers’ compensation programs
  • Manage Ohio State Fund workers’ compensation claims, coordination with TPA, MCO and plant facilities
  • Liaise with insurers and internal customers (EHS & Corporate personal) on WC claims
  • Report and manage all auto and products/general liability claims. Coordinate claim-related activities with internal persona and with carrier/TPA
  • Manage US property claims. Coordinate communications and all claims-related functions between Crown personnel & insurer/TPA. Review & select service providers
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly claim reports, identifying trends and recommend mitigation strategies

Job Qualifications

  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience in related field
  • 5 – 8 years of corporate risk management, underwriting, or brokerage experience
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills, ability to communicate effectively with company leadership, as well as insurance & manufacturing industry professionals
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Proficient knowledge of RMIS systems, as well as PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to manage complex internal requests touching all parts of global organization
  • ARM, CPCU, CRM, RIMS-CRMP or other insurance industry designation is a plus
  • Experience with foreign multinational operations is a plus
  • Workers Compensation claims experience is a plus
  • Background in manufacturing claims, loss prevention, or fire protection is a plus
  • Desire to learn and grow with the company
